PAŪS Spa - OTL Gouverneur Sherbrooke

My husband and I are from Montreal, but a few weeks ago, we had an event to attend in Sherbrooke and decided to stay at the OTL Gouverneur Hotel. We were delighted with our stay. The hotel was clean, modern and the staff was very friendly. As the weather was cold and rainy, we decided to have a cocooning weekend. At check-in we noticed that for hotel guests there was 20% off for access to the spa, thermal baths and treatments. We have traveled the world and visited a lot of spas and we were very pleased with this one. The spa services are very reasonably priced, but with the discount even more so. However, you don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy this pampering experience.

The PAŪS Spa is a year old. One of the things that makes it unusual is that the spa is spread out over four levels of the hotel, with elevator access. Whether you just want to experience the thermal baths or spoil yourself with a massage or other treatments you have access to the locker room, a bathrobe and a towel. If you take a treatment, the thermal baths are automatically included. I can vouch for the thermal experience and massage but not for the body treatments, however I would assume that they are at par with the other experiences we had.

If you are not a guest at the hotel but would like to train before your treatments or thermal experience, ask for access to the hotel’s state of the art gym with nice views of the area. I certainly enjoyed my morning training session.

First floor (waiting area and treatment room)

On the treatment floor the decoration is conducive to relaxation with framed pictures lining the walls of different cities around the world. My husband took a traditional Swedish massage that he enjoyed very much. His massage therapist was Samuel who was very professional and accommodating in providing a firm massage, which my husband prefers.

Second floor (reception area)

The reception area is very tastefully decorated and all the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. There is a small boutique where you can buy products. From the reception you also have access to the hotel pool and whirlpool area.

Third Floor (locker room)

The locker room on this floor is on a par with the look and feel of the rest of the spa. No need to bring your pad lock as they are electronic.  When you check in at reception, you will be given a bracelet that gives you access to your personal locker.

Fourth Floor (baths, saunas and quiet room)

The outdoor whirlpool situated on the rooftop is supersized and has nice hot water. It is also very quiet, with a partial view of the mountains. It is also well organized with hooks for your bathrobe, places for your slippers/flipflops and benches.

By the exit to the whirlpool, you will find a wet and dry sauna and a cold shower. The dry sauna is very spacious and has natural light. There is also a drinking water station to keep hydrated.

On the fourth floor you will also find the relaxation room. It is beautifully decorated with a fireplace and a nice view.  The furniture is lovely and comfortable. There are sofas, long chairs, swings, beds and bean bags, all water proofed. There are also coat racks to hang your bathrobe.  We opted for the large bean bags in front of the fireplace. It was so relaxing. Just in front of the elevator there is a small reception area where you can ask questions and order your drinks, including alcoholic drinks. Bring a good book as well!

If you are staying at the hotel, you have many options for dinner in addition to room service and the hotel restaurant. If you have a food intolerance or you are vegan, there is an Avril supermarket about a block away, while No. 900 Pizza, which offers gluten-free vegan pizza on freshly made dough is right across the street.

Whether you’re visiting Sherbrooke for business or pleasure, the PAŪS Spa at OTL Gouverneur Sherbrooke is a wonderful way to rid yourself of the stress of the world. Highly recommended!
